Toronto-based Jonesy Stationery is a modern, green stationery company that started in 2006. The designer, Nina, has created a great collection of eco-friendly stationery (soy-based inks, 100% recycled paper, etc.) for just about every occasion, including weddings!
Every time she works with a couple to create the perfect invitations, she starts from scratch and builds upon some special thing that has meaning for the two. Nina shared several of her designs as well as the stories behind them.
Sheri and Nathan were getting married in France. They are SO relaxed and wanted something simple and fun. The stripes and colors of France (with French thrown in here and there) were used to set the tone of the destination wedding without putting the Eiffel tower on there. (Top left)
Lexa and Peter’s invitation was an awesome one to work on in terms of symbolism. Lexa wanted to use symbols in the invitation, while keeping things informal but sophisticated. The three cards (invition to door knocking ceremony, card to describe a door knocking ceremony and destination wedding info card) were all different widths to create a bigger “Kete Pa,” which is the symbol of a good marriage. (Criss cross at the right of each card.) On the invite: The Nyame Dua (a sacred spot where rituals are performed) is used. On the door knocking ceremony info card, the Me Ware Wo symbol is used (a symbol of commitment, perseverance). (Top right)
In Jaclyn and Adam’s invitation, that design was taken from a portion of a pattern that is painted on the ceiling of the church. When I researched the church to find something unique, I found pictures of the ceiling. We all thought it was gorgeous, so we used it! (Bottom left)
