Social media has changed the way in which people communicate and interact with one another forever. However, with the continuing advancements in social media, the way in which people search for information, retrieve answers, and implement their new knowledge is ever changing for everyone. The changes that social media has brought about proliferates all markets including the wedding and events industries; with this has come the evolution of the Now Generation Bride.
The Now Generation Bride wants it all, and she wants it all now. One of the most defining qualities of this bride is the fact that she is no longer taking a year and a half to plan her wedding; the Now Generation Bride expects her wedding to be planned between six and eight months.
The Now Generation Bride looks to and trusts those who she considers ‘friends’ on social media – this means that she will no longer go directly to advertisements or the vendors; she will discuss different topics on Facebook, Twitter, and wedding blogs and find out what other Now Generation Brides have used, liked, and now recommend.
After receiving this information, the Now Generation Bride will head to vendors’ websites, and she expects the information to be instant and not to have to hunt around the website looking for contacts. The Now Generation Bride will often be searching on a mobile phone or tablet and will therefore gravitate toward webpages that are conducive to her mode of search and viewable anywhere.
A majority of Now Generation Brides will view a vendor’s blog over their website so that they can get a feel of their tone of voice, current work, and people they have worked with. Therefore, the Now Generation Bride loves easy links to a vendor’s Facebook, Twitter, and blog. The main pitfall of the Now Generation Bride is that she expects vendors to be accessible at all times, and the first vendor that responds to her she will most likely use. However, this is not the best way to choose your vendor!
After viewing their social media, the Now Generation Bride should pick her favorites, contact them, and wait (usually 24-48 hours, you can do it!) to hear back from all vendors before deciding on her final picks!
One of the main tell-tale signs of a Now Generation Bride is the use of applications in the planning of her wedding – and even if you do not consider yourself a Now Generation Bride these applications can be extremely helpful, too! The wedding registry has drastically changed from pots and pans and coffee makers to honeymoon plane tickets, activities, and dinners or down payments on houses.
The Honey Fund allows for the Now Generation Bride to register for literally anything her heart desires. Guests enter the registry and can add any amount of money to the different items, therefore giving the bride things that will be extremely pricey without the new registries.
In addition, the Now Generation Bride can download applications that can help her track her budget and timeline. MyWeddingWorkbook compiles many aspects including: guest lists, online RSVPs, personal wedding website, and budget tracking. This budget planner is so complete that it allows brides to input who will be paying for certain aspects; it can also include down payments, deposits, type of payments, due dates, etc.
The Wedding Timeline App for smart phones allows the Now Generation Bride to display the entire wedding timeline for the bride and all vendors, coordinators, and helpers. This timeline allows for an extra reinforcement that the wedding will not fall behind schedule at any point! This app also allows for the bride and groom to have separate timelines of what their day holds, and if certain things run longer than expected, the app allows you to adjust items in a split second!
While these apps and online tools help to keep the Now Generation Bride on track, they still require time and effort. To that end, the ultimate Now Generation Bride will still search out and utilize the very best professionals to ensure her day is perfect and she is stress free from start to finish!
