As an owner of a bridal hair and makeup company, I do encourage you to hire a professional for your wedding day. Although, there are many to-dos prior to the day to make your skin glow and your hair shine. DIY beauty can be fun and save you money.
Tips and Solutions ~
Tip: Most importantly, your makeup can only look as good as the skin underneath it. You cannot cover bad skin with makeup.
Professional Start: Start now! Get a facial and skin analysis from a professional. Take all of his/her tips and do them every day. Just like an exercise program, more often is better. With that regimen, don’t forget the most important product for your face – sunblock. Even the most expensive cream cannot reverse the damage and dryness of sun damage.
DIY Solution: All of the best ingredients can be found in your kitchen: yogurt, pumpkin, eggs, oatmeal and honey, to name a few.
My favorite skin pick-me-up is the Pumpkin Surpass Mask:
- 1/2 cup pumpkin pulp
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons almond milk
Puree fresh pumpkin into a thick paste and add the eggs. Stir in a splash of almond milk and mix. Apply the mask to your face, neck and hands. Leave on 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with cool water. Moisturize hands, neck and face.

Tip: Brows are the frame to your eye. A badly shaped brow or no shape at all can ruin your lovely bridal shadow and overall makeup look since the eyes are the most expressive part.
Professional Start: Grow out your brows then see a brow expert to give you the best shape for your face and eyes.
DIY Solution: It’s easy after you get your initial shape. Just keep it up yourself. Never let them grow back – each hair that you see pop up, get it immediately with your handy tweezers.

Tip: Lush lips look best. Whether you are going with bold red or just a simple lip color gloss, dry lips are not pretty.
DIY Solution: To keep the plump in your pout, once a week while brushing your teeth run the tooth brush with toothpaste over your lips. This removes the dead, dry skin and unveils the new. Top with a Vitamin E oil.

Tip: Healthy hair makes every bridal style shine.
Professional Start: Leave the color and cut to the experts.
DIY Solution: Skip the add-ons at the salon. To moisturize, combine (or use alone) avocado, mayonnaise (full fat), banana, olive oil, coconut oil, and/or honey. Massage a small amount into damp hair, concentrating on the ends. Cover your entire head with a plastic cap for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse and follow with a gentle shampoo. Repeat once a week.
With these savings, you can hire a professional bridal hair and makeup artist that you trust to help you achieve the look you want for your wedding day.
